Olympus OM-D E-M1 is ready to fight with other premium mirrorless camera

Olympus is very serious to develop PEN series cameras, and Olympus is now also ready to show the successor of OMD EM5, the new Olympus OMD EM1. This camera is a mirrorless camera based on the Micro Four Thirds standard, but it does not replace the existing OMD EM5 - instead it's pitched at a higher level, while the hugely popular EM5 remains on sale. Olympus OMD EM1 is equipped with a new 16 Megapixel sensor with on-chip phase-detection, allows the EM1 to quickly autofocus when fitted with old Four Thirds lenses via an adapter.

Olympus OM-D E-M1 is the flagship OM-D model. This camera is a premium mirrorless camera. The newly-developed Live MOS sensor supports Phase Detection AF on the imaging surface.

 In combination with the newly developed TruePic VII image processor, the camera reduces noise even further at high-sensitivities, and provides excellent image quality with improved reproducibility. Olympus quotes the continuous shooting speed of the OMD EM1 to be 10fps without AF and 6.5fps with AF. This makes it a tad faster than the Olympus EM5.

Olympus OMD EM1 is larger than the E-M5 in all dimensions. Actual dimensions are not much larger than that of the E-M5 but they do add up and it is chunkier than the E-M5. EM1 features a magnesium body that's dust-proof and splash-proof like the EM5 before it, but now additionally freeze-proof down to -10 degrees Celsius.

In terms of connectivity, the OMD EM1 is equipped with a Micro HDMI port, USB port (which doubles as an AV output and connector for the optional RM-UC1 cabled remote control), and an external microphone input, complete with basic levels adjustment.
